Don't get me wrong, I love this fall weather, but it's messing with my head! I've had a nasty headache for the last three days, and today my throat is pretty sore. I'm hanging in there though! I"m going to try to rest and get better because I don't want to be sick for our trip to Toronto next Thursday! Here's the tentative plan:

THURSDAY: Leave our house around 8 or 9 am. Arrive in Toronto mid afternoon. First stop - Steamwhistle Brewery for a tour. After the tour, check into our hotel, rest/relaxation at the hotel in the evening. Then, we are going to see a jazz show at The Rex.

FRIDAY: We are going to visit the CN Tower, and probably do some shopping at PATH, the underground mall. If we have any time to kill, we'll probably swim at the hotel pool, or take a walk, or take a NAP! :) Friday evening we have dinner reservations at Embrujo Flamenco, a Spanish restaurant with complimentary flamenco show. I am most excited about this part of the trip!! I'm very very ready to enjoy paella, croquetas, tortilla, and sangria! Mmm Mmm Mmmmm!

SATURDAY: I have left Saturday pretty open, on purpose. If we miss anything Thursday or Friday, we can make it up Saturday. If we have spare time, I'd like to meander around downtown and check out Yonge-Dundas Square, where there is an arts market on Saturdays. Casa Loma and Honest Ed's are also on the list if we have the time and desire. Saturday evening, we have tickets to the Toronto Symphony Orchestra! We are going to hear Rhythym & Blues. We're excited to do something sophisticated and to dress up and be classy for an evening.

SUNDAY: We're heading home Sunday morning, though we have no specific time in mind. I would like to get home farily early though, because Applebutter Fest is going on in Grand Rapids, and I would like to check that out a little bit.

So, the countdown is on to Toronto! Matt and I haven't even been on a date, or out to dinner, or anything since Hendrix has been born, and we're looking forward to taking a few days and concentrating on our marriage and each other.

We finally got Corduroy groomed this weekend and he looks soooo much better! Not sure if you can tell much of a difference from the picture, but his hair was shaved short and he's a handsome boy again!

Hope you all are enjoying the fall weather!

A few newer pictures

I will post about the weekend later today or tomorrow. I just wanted to share a few newer pictures of my boys. :)

This is Hendrix enjoying his 3rd helping of chicken, sauteed with red pepper and sugar snap peas. Yummm!
This is Hendrix purposely avoiding looking at me. He's good at that. :)

Hendrix playing Peek-A-Boo in the coat closet. Amazingly, no fingers were pinched in the process.

This is my handsome hubby (not sure what he's doing with his right hand!!), with Wade in the background.

No Hip Problems!

We received good news at the doctor yesterday, as expected. Hendrix doesn't have anything wrong with his hip. I really didn't think he did, but the doctor confirmed it. She did a full exam of his hips, moved his legs through full range of motion, and watched him walk for a few minutes. She did note that he tends to point his right toe in a bit when he walks, but that it's nothing to be concerned with at this point, and that I can mention it to his primary doctor at his one year check up. So that's what I'll do, and we can all relax until then!

It's another hot one today! It's now officially fall, but the last two days have been really warm. The high today is in the mid 80's. It's supposed to cool off tomorrow and stay in the 60's and 70's for the next 10 days or so. I'm so excited to get out and start taking fall pictures. The leaves around here are just starting to show small bursts of color! The combines are in the fields, and everyone's allergies are going crazy. It's officially fall. :)

We tried something new with Corduroy last night. He isn't the most trustworthy dog in the world, so we have him caged all day while we're gone. We were caging him at night also. Well, I started to feel really guilty about having the poor dog in his cage for 18-20 hours a day. So, due to some confusion between Matt and I, neither of us knew the other was going to bed (sounds weird, I know) and we both ended up in the bedroom, and Corduroy was out in the hallway, outside of our bedroom. We just told him to lay down and be good, and he did. Matt thought he'd go downstairs and get on the couch, and I thought we'd wake up and he'd be at the foot of our bed. Well, I was right. :) He did really well, and I'm excited that we dont have to cage him quite as much. I want to be a good dog-owner. We're getting him groomed on Sunday morning, and we can't wait! He smells and his hair is long and wild. I'll post before and after pics of him!

We have lots to do tonight and tomorrow morning in preparation for the Kane family visit. I'm going to go get in a quick workout after work, then head home to get started. Hope everyone has a fabulous weekend, and I'll post pictures soon from this weekend!

I picked Hendrix up from on Friday afternoon, and his teachers mentioned that he was kind of "throwing" his left leg when he walked. One of the teachers acted fairly concerned, while another one stated that it could be normal, since he was walking so early.

I went into daycare yesterday (Tuesday) to pick him up, and his teacher (same one that acted concerned yesterday) seemed more concerned, and thought that the problem was with his hip. She thought maybe his hip was out of socket, abnd he had some dysplasia. My gut instinct is telling me that he's fine, but I called the dr and made an appointment.

He goes to the doctor tomorrow at 4:30 pm. I just know they're going to tell me that it's normal for him to walk funny, since he's only 10 months, and send me on my way. But, I'd rather waste my time and money to know that he's ok than to say that I don't want to waste my time and money, and have something be wrong with him.

He's not acting like he's in any pain. I can take his knees and move his hip joints in full circles with no reaction from him. I pull up on his legs to raise his bum when diapering and dressing him, and that doesnt seem to bother him either. As mentioned, he does throw the leg a tiny bit, and his left foot turns out also, but I don't think he's got dysplasia. But.......we'll see for sure tomorrow.

Holy cow! I looked at the calendar today and realized that September is very, very quickly drawing to a close! I'm excited, as October is my favorite month, I'm just shocked! I'm going to blink, and Hendrix will be celebrating his 1st birthday!

Matt and I started our fall cleaning over the weekend. We organized 1 of the 4 upstairs closets (ugh.....only 25% done), Matt washed the windows, I organized the armoire in our bathroom, and we did general weekly cleaning. We've got a lot left to do, but I always get in the cleaning mood around this time of year. The Kane family is coming to visit us this weekend, so that should give us the push we need to do some more cleaning this weekend!

Wade, Amy, and Kenna should arrive mid-day Saturday. That gives us time to do any running-around that we need to do on Saturday morning. I am getting the oil changed in my car at 8 on Saturday. I believe we're all going out to eat Saturday evening at Biaggi's, the most amazing Italian restaurant I've ever been to! Then, we may walk around Levis Commons and enjoy. That place is so neat! Sunday, Amy mentioned wanting to go to church with me, so we'll probably do that, then of course watch football Sunday afternoon. Woo hoo! I'm putting on a pot of chili and I'll make some spinach artichoke dip. Mmmmmmm. Not sure when they'll go home. They mentioned staying Sunday night and leaving Monday morning, but I"m not sure their final plans.

16 days until our Toronto trip!! I'm so excited I can hardly stand it. Matt and I are in need of a getaway together. We haven't even been out to dinner together in over 10 months. Geesh!

I'm so ready for the leaves to change! The weather has been absolutely gorgeous for the past couple weeks.

We took a family bike ride last night on the towpath along the river. We normally head east on the path, but we decided to check out what lies west. Amazing! We were west of the bridge in Grand Rapids, on the north side of the river. It's the side away from town, and town is blocked by a large island in the middle the river. It's gorgeous, and it feels much cleaner than the south side of the river. The towpath is, literally, immediately next to the river, to the point that only a little amount of rain would flood the path. Once you get to the end of the path, it opens up to a little park area. There is an awesome 2nd-story picnic shelter (bathrooms are on the 1st flr) that overlooks the river, there are picnic tables in a large open area. And, there is a "sidewalk," so to speak, that meanders along the riverbed. This is all next to the dam, so you just hear rushing water. It's so peaceful. I'm itching to take my camera down there and capture the beautiful changing leaves!

I've started planning Hendrix's 1st birthday party, in my head. I have some really amazing ideas, and I hope they turn out! For the past week or so, I've been experimenting with cake recipes. I made one from scratch last night, and it smells delicious, I can't wait to taste it tonight, and practice decorating. The party is going to be Saturday, November 20th, so I have just over 2 months to perfect my designs and ideas!

Speaking of Hendrix, he's trying to start talking, and its adorable! He walks around the house all day saying "dah," which is "dog." Everything is dog right now. Also, every time he hits 2 objects together, or against the floor, etc, we say "Tap,tap, tap," and last night in the tub, he started saying that. It was so cute I almost cried! He just made the "t" sound 3 times, but he's trying! I'm so proud of my boy. :)

Well, I must close for today. Have an enjoyable day and God bless!

Tuesday, September 7, 2010

Well, Labor Day has come and gone. Summer is unoficially over! Yay! Now, if we could just get the weather to cooperate until Thanksgiving and hover in the mid 60's and 70's, I'd be one happy camper!

Hendrix and I travelled to Rapid City, South Dakota over Labor Day weekend, along with Joyce (my mother-in-law), Brittany (Matt's brother, Nate's wife), and Nate and Britt's son, Landon (8.5 months). It was quite an adventure. While I have recovered from it, I think Hendrix is still playing catch-up. He was NOT a happy little boy when I got him out of bed this morning. It was a very enjoyable time, once we got there. Getting there was a complete disaster, however. Here's the recap:

Our flight was scheduled to leave Indianapolis at 12:30 pm on Thursday. It was delayed for maintenance reasons. It didn't end up taking off until about 1:15 pm. Our layover time in Minneapolis was less than an hour. So, the delay of the flight meant we'd miss our connection. So, while waiting for the plane in Indy, they changed our flights from Minneapolis. We were on standby for a flight at 5:20 pm, and in the case we didn't get that one, we were confirmed for the only other flight that day, which was at 9:45 pm. Well, our plane finally took off from Indy, and once we got to Minneapolis, we all had to use the restroom (we're ladies). We're finishing up in the bathroom, and hear an overhead announcement for "Final Boarding Call for flight whatever to Rapid City." We all freeze, look at each other, then frantically start packing up the boys and our things and we literally run accross the terminal to this flight, having no clue if we're going to make it or not. We get to the gate, and the lady at the counter says, "There you girls are! We've been waiting for you!" Brittany says,"Can we get on this flight?" Counter lady says, "No, I'm sorry. I just gave away your seats." You can visibily see all of our shoulders slumping in disappointment. :( So now, all we had to do was wait, and hope we got on the 5:20 flight. At this point, it was 2:30 in the afternoon. We hung around and did NOT end up getting the 5:20 flight. More disappointment. So then, we had a lot more waiting to do, for the 9:45 flight, for which we were confirmed. We had a nice dinner together, and tried to keep the kiddos entertained. Landon was a perfect angel, of course. Hendrix did very well until about 9 pm, which was 10 pm our time - 2 hours past his bed time. He was getting worse by the minute. We finally got into our seat, and Hendrix melted down. Screaming, thrashing, stiffening out, throwing back his head, all-out FIT. I tried giving him a warm bottle, I tried the pacifier, I tried his blankey, I tried everything I could think of. After, like, 20 minutes of the biggest fit of his life, I melted down right along with him. I was so embarassed and had no idea what to do. Well, when we started taxying down the runway and they shut the cabin lights off, his sobs turned to whimpers, and he FINALLY fell asleep. It was horrendous.

We got the boys in bed around 2 am our time (midnight mountain time), and I think I crawled into bed around 2:30. I got about 5 hours of sleep that night.

The next day, Friday, we got to meet the great-aunts and uncles, and Hendrix's great-grandma and grandpa. Great Grandma has Alzheimers, and she spent the first couple hours thinking that Hendrix and Landon were adopted. She got better as the day went along. Uncle Gary had rented a large 15-pass van, and we drove around the Black Hills for a couple hours. It was very beautiful! Friday evening, the whole family gathered at Aunt Bobbi's house (where we were staying) and had pizza. It was quite enjoyable!

Saturday morning, we went to see Aunt Bobbi's school (she is a teacher), and cousin Lora's apartment. Then, we stopped at a couple jewelry shops (Black Hills Gold) on our way to Mt. Rushmore. Mt Rushmore was awesome! We went on a guided tour and heard the history of the mountain, and it was very, very interesting. After Mt Rushmore, Brittany, Lora, myself, and the boys went to the mall. There was a BodiesHuman exhibit going on! we got to see that, which was awesome. Then, we went to dinner at Gary and Sharon's house that evening. We had a cookout and it was very laid backed and relaxed.

Then, the next day, we came home, with MUCH less drama. Hendrix slept the entire 3.5 hour drive from Indianapolis to Grand Rapids. The poor boy is wiped. Yesterday (Labor Day), I worked and Matt watched him. Matt said he took a total of about 5 hours worth of naps. Then, as I mentioned, he was a grouch when I woke him up this morning for day care. We'll see how he's doing tonight. Hopefully well, cause we have to charge the battery on Matt's personal car and get it into Bowling Green to have it checked out before we sell it.

This week is crazy busy. But anyhoo.....Happy End of Summer to all! I'll post South Dakota pictures on Facebook shortly!
