The Metz Thanksgiving

The Metz Thanksgiving was......not very exciting. However, it was still an enjoyable holiday, as always, and we - as a family - have so much for which to be thankful!!

Since I always work the day before and the day after the holiday, we didn't go anywhere. And since we were set on being in the area, I decided to sign up to work, since the pay is double time and a half on holidays. So, I worked 7a-3:30p. Matt's co-worker, Grant, was going to be spending Thanksgiving with just his mom in Bowling Green, so they invited us over. It was such a nice gesture. Matt and Hendrix headed to BG around 2, and I met them there at 4, after work. Grant's mom cooked a whole chicken, and then there were all the traditional fixings to go with it: mashed and sweet potatoes, stuffing, corn, peas, rolls, etc. And of course pumpkin pie for desert. It was all delicious!! After the meal, we hung out for a bit, and headed home to get Hendrix to bed around 8. It was low key, but very enjoyable.

And now, we're on to Christmas! We got a pre-cut live tree on Saturday, and spent Saturday and Sunday decorating the tree and the house for the holidays. Sunday after church, I hung Christmas lights outside. It looks so nice! I can't wait to show you pictures (I'm at work, camera is at home)! So, we're all decorated for Christmas. If only I could get ahead on my shopping.....

Men and Christmas......not a good combo!

Men are so helpless sometimes. :) Matt had such a great idea for my Christmas present this year - a Kindle! However, instead of surprising me with it, he decided to tell me about it, "to make sure it would be something I was interested in." Well, I'm super excited about the Kindle, but I just wish I could be surprised by it on Christmas! Oh well......he's on his own next year. :)

I've been looking into the Kindle, because - quite honestly - I didn't know that much about them. I'm going to ask for the Kindle 3G, with which you can download books anywhere there is an AT&T cell signal. I was also just looking at the Amazon website, and there are hundreds and hundreds of free books! Lots of classics too, which is awesome.

Since Matt has virtually no online-shopping knowledge, I'm sure I'll be the one ordering my own Christmas present, but hopefully I can order it this week. Not sure if I'll be able to keep in under wraps until Christmas though!

Hendrix......not so hot lately.

I've had one sick little boy this week. Hendrix's fever started on Sunday morning. I took his temperature before we headed out to church and it was at 99. I assumed it was a teething fever, and we headed to church anyway. Well, he progressively got whinier and worse all morning. When we got home it had gone up to 101, and his cough had gotten fairly nasty.

Monday morning, I got him up at the regular time, hoping he was better, and he had a fever of 102. Matt stayed home with him. He still had a high fever that evening, so I scheduled a dr. appointment for the next day, and on Tuesday, I stayed home from work and took him to the doctor. We were told he just had a cold, and the sickness needed to run it course. What a bummer. Tuesday evening, after some Motrin, he was playing and acting pretty normal.

Wednesday morning, I took his temperature and it was at about 99.5 degrees. Neither Matt nor I really wanted to miss another day of work, so I gave him some Motrin and sent him to daycare, fully expecting daycare to call me and tell me his fever had spiked back up. But he made it through the day!! He was just a grouch due to teething. He remained fever-free all day Wednesday, and when I woke him up this morning (Thursday), he was running at about 96 degrees - hallelujah! I actually took his temp twice to make sure it wasn't too good to be true!

He's still got a pretty nasty cough, but we're giving him breathing treatments twice a day, decongestant 3 times a day, and running a humidifier with Vicks in his room at night. Hopefully it will pass shortly, because the poor baby hasn't slept well in over a week. Plus, his 1st birthday is tomorrow and I don't want him to be sick for that!!

Playing Catch-Up: A Little Bit of Everything

Wow - I let a few days slip by without an update. Life has just been so busy and it won't slow down!!

A couple weeks ago, I had the opportunity to travel to Atlanta for my job, and to meet the local office personnel down there. I wouldn't really call it a "productive" trip, but it was enjoyable, and it's always good to put faces with the names you speak to on the phone every day.

Well, it's almost here - Hendrix's 1st birthday. This week should prove to be a busy one, as we get ready for the party. Poor little guy has been running a fever since yesterday morning, so he's home today with daddy. I'm praying he can get better. It's so hard to watch your little one suffer. We got his 1st haircut over the weekend. He did so well, and sat very still, even when the stylist got out the clippers! He looks like such a little man. My heart swells each time I look at him! <3

I'm working on bettering my relationship with the Lord right now. I feel like I've gotten off track, and I hate that feeling. Satan is just so good at being evil and pulling you slowly off track before you even realize you're headed in the wrong direction. I've been praying a lot though, and asking God to just invade every part of me so that I can be an exemplary Christian and an example to others.

I'm hoping to get down the fall decorations this week and get up the white icicle lights for Christmas! I also want to hang greenery with the red bow on our porch pillars. I always think that looks so sharp. I really need to get going on my Christmas shopping!! So far I have gotten for Hendrix: a set of plastic animals and a sit-&-spin. I have his birthday done (radio flyer wagon, some clothes, and some Dr. Seuss Books). The pressure is mounting, it's almost officially Christmas time......eep! Maybe next weekend we can do some serious shopping.

Halloween Weekend

Friday evening, there was a get together with the ladies at church. We had dinner at P.F. Changs. I'd heard so many great things about it, and I was excited! The food was good, but - in my opinion - nothing to get ecstatic about. But it was very enjoyable, as always, to hang out with the girls and socialize a bit.

Saturday morning, I put in a few hours of overtime (7a-11:30a) at work, then came home and went into organization mode! I cleaned up the kitchen a bit, but my big project was re-organizing our desk/office area in the back of the house. We have a huge built in shelf back there, and it had become cluttered with junk. Plus, 2 drawers of our desk had been gradually filled with tools and Matt. So, I emptied everything (and I mean everything) from both the desk and the shelf and started over. I threw a bunch of stuff away and organized what was left. It looks so nice!!! I now have 2 drawers dedicated to scrapbooking, and a small corkboard for bills. Organization is so nice. :)

While I worked on the desk area, Matt worked on our coat closet, and we also tackled our closets upstairs. Needless to say, I currently have a huge box in the back of my car set to be taken to Goodwill. Its amazing how much "stuff" you can acquire in such a short time.

Saturday evening, I took my little lion trick-or-treating with Jeanna, Penny, Kay, and Beau around Grand Rapids. Hendrix didn't get that much candy, but he can't eat it anyway.

Sunday, we had planned on going to church, but ended up playing hooky. I felt guilty about it, of course. But lately, it seems as if life never stops for us. I go and go from 5am on Monday until about 5 pm on Friday, and then it seems like we have constant obligations on the weekends as well. Plus, I worked Saturday morning, and am leaving tomorrow morning for Atlanta for 3 days (work trip). I just wanted to spend time at home with my children (I have 3: Hendrix, Matt, and Corduroy). :o) So.....we hung out at home, did more organizing, and just relaxed. It was nice.

I'm excited to get away for a few days, in Atlanta, and have some time to myself (when not doing work related activities), but I know I am going to miss my Hendrix Pendrix so badly. I just feel so burnt out lately, about everything. Hopefully the trip goes well.

Well, that's all for today. I will hopefully post Halloween pictures soon.
