Snowy/icy Monday afternoon

Here are some pictures from Monday evening - we got a lot of ice Sunday night, then snow on Monday, so we were keeping ourselves entertained Monday afternoon:

He climbed up the couch all by himself and was looking out the window at the snow.

Took off his diaper for bath time, and he escaped! He was running around the house, rather enjoying being naked!! :)

Walking in daddy's shoes.

He was giggling his head off at daddy, who was trying to "climb the wall."

22 Weeks Pregnant

Yesterday marked the beginning of week 22 for me. I'm soooo ready for this baby, and stil have 18 weeks to go............

Fetal development this week: Hands and feet have grown bigger and stronger, and the nerve endings have developed his sense of touch. He's in there touching his face and grabbing the unbilical cord. Baby has started growing taste buds and may be able to detect strong flavors in the amniotic fluid. He may be sticking out his toungue for a taste and grimacing! :) Baby is now measured from head to toe, and it about 11 inches long. He weighs about 1 pound.

Not much to share today.

You see I updated the design of the blog to give it a more "spring" like feel.

Here are 2 pics I took of myself this morning to show off my almost 22 week baby bump!

Hope everyone has a great weekend!

Spring is in the air.......

.......for now.

I'm sure it'll snow again before March is over. It always does. The high today is supposed to be very near 60 degrees. But I'm sure 20's and 30's are in the forecast for the next 10 days.

This time of year is such a tease.

Valentine's Day

Valentine's day isn't much of a spectacle in the Metz household. It's just another day to us!However, I did make a cake for my two Valentine's: Matt and Hendrix!

I also made "Windowpane Heart Cookies," from a recipe that I found online. They're regular cookie batter, with jolly ranchers melted in the middle to form sort of a see-through "window." So neat - they are such pretty cookies! I made them for a dessert carry-in we had at work.

I love my boys every day, and don't feel I need a specific day to express it. But, I'm not trying to be too much of a V-Day humbug! Hehehehe.....

21 Weeks Pregnant

Gosh, I need to post a belly picture on here! This little boy is sure growing. I know this because I'm sure growing! (:o/)

So, at 21 weeks, here's what's going on: I'm definitely feeling Mr. Jamison move around and kick in there. It's so cool! Now, the baby looks like a mini-version of what he'll look like at birth. He makes little facial expressions and even sucks his thumb sometimes. Fetal bone marrow begins making cells now, which was a function previously performed by the liver. Baby is practicing swallowing the amniotic fluid, and the digestive tract is now developed enough that he can absorb sugar from it. Baby is now between 10 and 11 ounces and is about 7 inches long.

Reasons I'm ready for spring:

Oh spring, where are you? (About 6 weeks away, I'd imagine) I'm ready for spring so I/we can do the following things:

Open the windows and enjoy a breeze!

Hang laundry out to dry instead of running the dryer.

Take walks.

Play at the park.

Grill out for dinner!

Sit out on the deck and enjoy a glass of wine (well, after the baby, of course).

Enjoy the smell of freshly cut grass.

Celebrate Easter.

Spring cleaning (yes, I'm looking forward to it - I'm sure I will be even more once the nesting instinct takes over).

Rent a dumpster and FINALLY get rid of all the junk in our garage that we accumulated after doing renovations/updates to our house.

Go to the zoo!!!!! (This is the one I'm looking forward to the most, with as much as Hendrix LOVES animals!)

Take walks along the river in Grand Rapids.

Plant flowers!

Oh yeah....and we'll be THAT much closer to meeting Hendrix's little brother!

Spring, we're (not so patiently) waiting for your arrival. Hurry, please!

That's right - we're going to be blessed with another boy! And I do mean blessed. I would NOT have been upset had it been a girl, but I'm not going to lie - I'm excited about Hendrix having a little brother!

It's just so fun being a mommy to a boy! I've always been a tomboy, my whole life. I can't think of spending my summer afternoons/evenings playing tea party and barbies!! I want to be outside with my boys kicking a soccer ball, swimming, playing baseball, and getting dirty! I hope we can breed the love of sports into these boys so that we spend our evenings going to their sporting events and cheering them on.

I'm just so excited! :) Now.......hurry up and get here, June!!!

Is it spring yet?!?

Never before have I been so ready for spring! It's been bitterly cold and snowy this January/February (so far), and I'm tired of being cooped up in the house, fighting germs, germs, and more germs!

Little Hendrix has been sick again. Last evening he was running a fever of 103.7. Yikes. That's the highest fever he's ever had. I didn't give him motrin right away, because I feel that the fever is the body's natural way of fighting the virus or bacteria that's invading it. So we just cuddles lots and he slept in Matt and I's lap. I gave him a quick bath around 7, then dosed him with some motrin and he went to bed at 8 and slept until 4. At 4 am, he was fever free. I put him back down and he slept until almost 7. We stayed home for a few extra hours this morning so I could monitor his behavior and make a decision about whether or not to send him to daycare. He was acting pretty normal, so I sent him. I'm now sitting here beating myself up over that decision, but I just called to check on him and he seems to be doing well. I wish it wasn't so hard to balance being a mommy and working full time. It's a constant struggle with guilt for me..... :(

Anyway, here are some sicky pictures of Hendrix that I took yesterday afternoon/evening.

In the car on the way home from daycare.....zoned out.

Sleeping in my lap last evening.

20 Weeks

I'm 20 weeks pregnant!

Development this week: Baby has established sleep patterns similar to that of a newborn, and many already have a favorite sleeping position. From here on out, baby will put most of its energy into gaining weight. Right now, it is about 10.5 ounces and about 6.5 inches long.

I have been feeling more movement this past week. The kicks are still very faint, but have been happening more often. 20 week ultrasound is in about 48 hours!!!!!

Weekend 2/5 and 2/6

Our weekend brought MORE SNOW. Ugh!!!
My parents actually came to visit on Saturday morning. Had we known how much snow we were to get, I'm sure they'd have stayed home! But they got to our house, and we just hung out and they played with Hendrix for a bit. Then we decided to drive into Bowling Green to get some lunch. The roads were terrible! We had lunch at El Zarape (my most favorite Mexican restaurant ever!), then headed back home. After seeing how much the weather had deteriorated, mom and dad hit the road as soon as we got back. We didn't get to spend much time with them, but I guess that's the way it is.......

Yesterday, Matt and I, along with another young couple, were the teachers for children's church at church. It went better than expected. We're doing it again next week. Hopefully it will go well again. After church, we all three took a nice nap, then woke up and started making Super Bowl goodies! I made cheesy potato soup, spinach artichoke dip, and brownie hot fudge sundaes! MMMMMMM!!!!! Hendrix was in a pretty good mood Sunday evening, so we had fun playing and giggling the evening away! Poor baby boy just has another Heading to Bowling Green this evening to get him some new supplies for his nebulizer. Back to breathing treatments. Sigh.

My car was looked at on Friday. Turns out the ABS rear brake bearing hub assembly (whatever the heck that is) and the water pump are bad. Those, combined with a new set of windshield wiper blades, adds up to $1100 in repairs. OUCH! Needless to say, I'll be working some overtime over the next few weeks/months. Eww.

Here are a few pictures I took over the weekend:
Hahaha! This one makes me laugh every time I look at it!
Smooching my indifferent little boy, who apparently couldn't care less.

Twirling around the living room with daddy!

One minute he's laughing with granny!

The next minute he's ticked off and wants out of his seat!!!

Oh what a joy this little boy is in our lives. We're so blessed! Can't wait to have a 2nd baby to love this much!
Have a superb week!

The products of "Snowstorm 2011"

We got the snowstorm that the weatherman was predicting! Though it was less snow and more sleet/ice. Matt, Hendrix, and I all stayed in yesterday. It was thought to be an enjoyable day, but it turned out that little man Hendrix was pretty fussy and irritable all day long. After 3 meltdowns last evening, we are pretty sure he's got another ear infection. So frustrating. I had a refill left over from his last antibiotic, so I called that in last night, and am going to pick it up after work this afternoon. Hopefully that will do the trick and he can stay well until we get into the ENT again towards then end of this month.

I did, however, manage to get a few things done yesterday that I haven't had the chance to do yet. I finished my crocheted Mary Jane Slippers! They're really comfy!

I also painted my first flower pot. It's not adorable, by any means, but it's my first, and I'm proud of it. All that's left for me to do is to seal it with lacquer.

As purchased.

White coat applied.

Quote painted on (next time I'll use a paint marker).

Flower stenciled on (I cut out my own stencil for this).
So the day wasn't a total disaster! Hope everyone is staying warm. Only 6 weeks until spring!!

19 Weeks Pregnant

I need to catch up!!!

I was 19 weeks pregnant on Tuesday. I'm almost 1/2 way! Hopefully the doctor will be willing to induce me at 38 or 39 weeks, so potentially, I COULD be 1/2 way!!

Baby development this week: Baby is starting to produce meconium and vernix now. Baby's brain is forming pockets to specialize in smell, taste, hearing, vision, and touch. I have been feeling more kicks in the last few days! In fact, I was up at 5 am yesterday morning to check the news (snow storm), and couldn't get back to sleep due to the baby kicking me. I forgot how fun it feels (for now)!
