18 Weeks Pregnant

Today I'm 18 weeks pregnant. Just over 2 weeks until the big ultrasound!

Baby development this week: Baby is over 5 and 1/2 inches long and weighs about 6 or 7 ounces. Heart is now developed enough to show signs of defects, and the genitals are distinguishable. I have felt little flutters, which I believe are the baby moving around. Can't wait to start feeling them more regularly! I got the heartbeat last night before bed, and it was nice and strong. I just can't wait to find out what we're having. My gut instinct is still telling me that it's another boy. We'll see!

The site I normally use to post the picture has now been blocked at work, so here's another 18-week fetus picture that I found. (Not as good)

Oh the things I would do if.....

Oh the things I would do if I had more time.....

Paint/decorate flower pots to give as gifts!

Crochet slippers for myself!

Work on my scrapbooking!

Bake cookies and other goodies!

Read more books!

The dreaded Monday...

I'll tell you what, I'm getting really tired of having headaches every day. That's all.
Anyhoo.....It's Monday, and it's definitely a "Monday" kind of Monday too. Eww. BUT, I'm trying to keep a positive attitude. We asked for a positive attitude last night during family prayers, and I'm doing my part to keep mine.

Hendrix was an absolute BEAR this morning. He tends to be fussy and irritable 1st thing in the mornings when I wake him up, but he woke up this morning on this own, and was just screaming and crying and throwing a fit. I was scared that he wasn't feeling well, but daycare still hasn't called me, so who knows.

We had an enjoyable weekend. Saturday, we didn't go anywhere! (Well, other than my working OT 3-8pm). By us staying home Saturday morning, I can't help but to feel like we saved some money. Seems like every time we go into town, we end up dropping about $100. I made the monkey bread Saturday morning and it was really good. I managed to get a nap in for about an hour before having to go to work, which is always a blessing! Matt told me, when I got home, Saturday evening, that Hendrix went to bed without his pacifier!! I was super excited, and decided we'd go "cold turkey" from there on out.

Well.......after church on Sunday, we had lunch. After lunch I started telling Hendrix to get ready for a nap (he's a smart kid, he knows what I meant). We talked about it for about 15 minutes, then I put him in his pack & play. He messed around and was goofy for about 20 minutes, then started to get upset. He was fussing and crying and after 40 minutes of him being in that pack & play - wide awake - we ended up giving up and gave him his paci. The little boy was out cold within 3 minutes. So, needless to say - cold turkey didn't work so well. However, he went to bed without it, with no problem, again last night. So we just need to work on nap time, and be firm. *sigh*

We watched football and just relaxed last evening. I baked my first ever sugar cream pie and it turned out pretty well. I'm excited!

Matt and I only have a 4 day work week. We both took Friday and Monday off to work on getting the office/guest room consolidated and to get Hendrix's bedroom moved. I'm 1/2 way through this (horrific) day, so only 3 and 1/2 days until the weekend.
Hope you all have a good week. I'll leave you with some pictures from the weekend.

It's 8 degrees right now. I think the wind chill is about -10. As Hendrix would say, "Brrr!"

We finally made it to Friday. This has been a long drawn out week. Matt and I both took off next Friday and Monday, so we only have to work 4-day work weeks for the next 2 weeks. Woo hoo! This weekend, I'm picking up some overtime from 3p-8p on Saturday afternoon. I hate working overtime, but want to do my part. I'm not working OT next weekend (long weekend for me and Matt), and then mom and dad are coming to visit one of the next 2 following weekends, so I'm putting in my time this weekend and getting it out of the way for a month or so.

I'm planning on making monkey bread for breakfast tomorrow morning. Yumm! I haven't had monkey bread in ages, since mom used to make it when I lived at home. After breakfast, we just plan on hanging out around the house. I'd like to dig into that upstairs office a bit more, so we have less to do on it this weekend. Then I'll work, of course, then I'll come home with Taco Bell. That's kind of become a "mini-tradition" with Matt and I. If Steph works OT, Taco Bell is served when she gets home. We look forward to it. :)

Sunday, we'll be at church, then come home and watch football to see who's going to the superbowl! Should be a very relaxing weekend.

Hope you all enjoy!

Bom bom bom.......TAX TIME.

It's finally Thursday! I'm so excited because I get to start my second Beth Moore bibly study with the ladies this evening at church. Woo hoo!

Side note bummer though - I have ANOTHER cold. I just had the nastiest cold ever in December, and now here I am with another one, about 6 weeks later. Ugh. Can't really take anything since I'm pregnant, so I guess I just suck it up and give it time.

Well, it's that time of year. The time of year that makes most people smile. The time of year that - lately - has made me cringe. Taxes. Our Schindler W2's came out today online. I printed mine off, and the amount I paid in taxes seems low to me. Plus, we lived in Grand Rapids all of 2010, and have been paying taxes to Bowling Green the entire time, so we're going to - again - owe lots of money to the Otsego school district. We should get that money back from Bowling Green, though. But for the past two years, we've owed money. Not a ton, but it's still so frustrating. You hear about all these people getting $5k, $6k back, and here we are - hard workers - owing a few hundred dollars. I won't go off about politics right now - but lets just say our system is SO screwed up. Ok, I'm done now. :)

We are doing TurboTax this year, however. Due to Matt's preference, we've gone to HR Block the past 2 years, and I feel like it's such a rip off. It costs almost $300 just for them do to the taxes. We're totally capable of doing them on our own, so we're going to this year. At least we won't owe money to the government AND HR Block this year. That's been a double wammy.

Well this post has officially depressed me for the day. Good thing I get to dive into Beth Moore tonight! I'll let you know how it goes!

Have a good Thursday!

17 weeks

Today I'm 17 weeks pregnant. One can tell I'm pregnant too, just by looking. I feel huge already.....ugh.

Baby development this week: Baby's big job over the next few weeks is gaining weight. His/her weight will increase 6x over the next 4 weeks. Baby is working hard sucking and swallowing this week. The finger and toe nails are beginning to grow from the nail beds this week. Baby weighs around 5 ounces and is around 5 inches long.

My 17-week pregnant belly. Only 23 weeks to go!

Weekend 1/15 - 1/16

This weekend went too fast, as they usually do. It was a very low key weekend, which was nice.

Saturday morning, we ran a few errands, and I went to Hobby Lobby and got some cardstock to work on the scrapbook I'm making for the year 2010. We also opened Hendrix his own savings account - such a big boy. Saturday afternoon we watched more NFL playoffs. All the teams I've been rooting for are now out. Hehehe. We had burgers and tots for dinner Saturday evening, and I worked a bit on the scrapbook. I also got started going through the closet of the office. (Yikes)

Sunday morning, I had to be at church at 9, since I was playing with the worship team. After church, we headed home, had leftover pasta for lunch, and then all took a 2 hour nap. Ahhh, I do love our weekend naps (soon to come to an end once little one #2 arrives). We watched more football - we do LOVE some football in our household - and just enjoyed being home. It is our favorite place in the whole world, after all!! Last night, I put together a beef stew to cook all day today in the crock pot. I put it on before leaving the house this morning. I'm so hoping it turns out well. It sounds soooooo good! We'll have it with warm buttered rolls. Mmmmmm.

My goal this week is to work just a few minutes each day in the office, going through stuff, consolidating, and throwing things out. It's so much easier to do that without Matt involved because he's such a pack rat. He wants to hold on to everything!!! I got rid of a whole tote worth of papers from 2008 that had been packed in said tote.......since 2008. Sorry - 3 years untouched = gets thrown away. I'm so ruthless. LOL. :)

I'm starting a new bible study Thursday evening. I'm so excited! I did one last January. It was the study of the Patriarchs (Abraham, Isaac, etc) with Beth Moore. I LOVED it! The one we're starting this week is also by Beth Moore, and it's the study of David. I hope to share some of it with you through this blog!

Hope everyone has a good week!

January Snow

We got between 5 and 6 inches of snow yesterday while I was at work. Nothing devastating, of course, but it made for an interesting drive home!!

Believe it or not, this is a highway.

Trees along the side of the highway.

The back deck at home.

The backyard.
The roads were surprisingly clear on the drive to work this morning. Again, it wasn't a bad snowstorm by any means. But it was pretty (once I got home)!

16 Weeks

Today I am 16 weeks pregnant. My little prego belly is starting to pop out a little more each day. I am still able to button all of my pants (not necessarily comfortably) though. Not ready to break out the maternity gear until its absolutely necessary!

Baby this week: It is making all sorts of facial expressions this week (squinting, yawning, grimacing, etc). If it is a girl, uterus is fully developed and ovaries already hold primitive egg cells. It's heart now pumps 25 quarts of blood a day. Baby weighs about 3 ounces and is between 4 and 5 inches long.

Less than a month until we find out what we're having!

Big decision to be made......

Well, everyone knows by now that we're expecting baby number 2. When talking about daycare, I've kind of been in denial until a couple days ago. I knew it would be expensive, but when it came up in conversation, I would just kind of dismiss it, with "Oh, it'll work out."

Well, I started really thinking about it the other day, and reality smacked me in the face. Right now I pay $209 a week for Hendrix alone. Double that, and it's my entire salary. I'd be bringing home maybe $5 a week, after paying for daycare. There's no way I would ever do that. It doesn't make sense financially, nor would my consceince allow me to do it. How is it justifiable to work solely to pay someone else to spend more time with your children than you do? Easy answer: it's not.

My plan was to go part time, to second shift, which I really didnt want to do, since I'd never see Matt. (I was on 2nd shift when we first moved to Ohio, and it didn't work out well for us - we fought all the time.) I'll still do it if I have to, but a new ray of hope seems to be shining through the clouds right now.

There's a young lady at our church who is faced with going back to work after losing her baby at 18 weeks gestation. She would like to be able to stay home with her two boys, but needs an income source. We got to talking on Facebook, and we may be looking into taking our children to her. We were wanting to find a home daycare situation, and I trust her and her family, as they are very good, Christian people, who strive to put God and family first. Casey (her name) and I are going to talk this week. I'm hoping that something can work out. I just have to know that there will be permanence to the situation, and that I can count on her. I'm praying about it, and I know she is too.

I really, really don't want to pull Hendrix out of his current daycare, but there's just no other choice when baby #2 comes along. It's too expensive. Bottom line. Plus, I just feel like God has laid this option out in front of both of our families for a reason. I will keep praying, and update after I talk to her and find out more!

Back at the gym

It's been a little over a month since my last workout. I was feeling super guilty, but I get the impression that a lot of people kind of took a break over the holiday season.

But I went back to the gym yesterday, and I'm headed there again after work today. It feels good to get back into the groove of things. Unfortunately, I can't workout like I was a few months ago, before getting pregnant, but I still do about 20-30 minutes of cardio.

I'm also resolving to keep up working my arms/legs all throughout the pregnancy. I want to gain as little weight as possible (and still be healthy of course), and keep as toned as possible so that after the baby comes, I can just concentrate on my abs/torso area.

Pre-baby, I was down to 141. After having Hendrix, I got down to 143 before getting pregnant again. (I gained about 30 lbs with Hendrix) Not too bad, huh? My goal after #2 is 145 by April, and of course WHEN I make that goal, I'll keep trying to get as close to 140 as possible. Below 140 just doesn't seem healthy to me.

Woo hoo! I'm motivated. Now, if we could just speed up time to June 2011............ :)

15 weeks

I'm 15 weeks pregnant as of today. I'm hoping to start feeling movement soon! My belly has popped out just a tiny bit. You probably couldn't tell if you didn't see me on a daily basis. I can sure tell though. I'm going to have to break out my belly band within a few weeks, I'm sure. Yikes....... I go to the OB tomorrow afternoon. Not sure they'll be able to tell me anything too exciting, but it's always fun to go after it's been a whole month without being there.

Baby development this week: Baby's head is now resting on it's neck instead of directly on its shoulders like Igor. It's beginning to grow eyebrows and eyelashes this week, as well as hair on its head. Baby's eyes are still sealed shut, but it can now sense light. Eyes and ears actually look like real baby features now! Baby practices swallowing and sucking the amniotic fluid, and may begin to hiccup this week. Baby measures around 4 inches and weighs almost 2 ounces.

Back to the grind.

This may be the most dreaded Monday of the year. What do we have to look forward to at this point???? Memorial Day? BLAH!!!

Oh well - we'll truck right along and get through it!

I'm headed to the gym after work today. As a regular gym go-er, I dread this time of year. The gym is always packed with people who have made new year's resolutions to get healthy and lose weight. They start filtering out around mid-February, but January and early February are brutal, trying to find a piece of cardio equipment to use.

I obviously am not going to lose weight, as I was earlier in the year. But I worked out through the entire pregnancy with Hendrix and I feel it really helped in the delivery room. Plus, it feels good to be healthy! So, I'll fight the temporary gym crowd and get my cardio in today.

Happy Monday! *Note the sarcasm.*

In 2011, I resolve to........

As it is with most people, I rarely keep a New Year's Resolution the entire year, but I still make them every year, and begin each January with the determination to have achieved them all by December! My resolutions for 2011 are:

1) Start and contribute to my 401(k). This one can actually already be checked off the list! I signed up for 401(k) last week, set my contrubution amount, chose my contribution allocations, and should start contributing within 2 pay periods. Woo hoo!

2) Save $10-$15 per week for Christmas shopping. This past Christmas, we ended up putting a lot of our Christmas shopping on the credit cards, just because we hadn't saved all year, and were unprepared. Not in 2011! I moved some money over to our designated saving account yesterday, so I'm off to a good start!!

3) Save $10-$15 per week for a 5th anniversary trip for Matt and I. This one kind of spans 2011 and 2012. I have been wanting to go on a nice trip for a long time now. By the time October 2012 rolls around, our youngest will be 16 months old, and Hendrix will be almost 3. That's plenty old enough to leave with the grandparents for a week so Matt and I can get away. And with 2 years worth of saving, we should have a nice chunk set aside!

4) Do better about sending birthday/anniversary cards/gifts. I'm one of the most horrible people about sending cards, gifts, etc. That's going to change in 2011! (I'm not off to a great start - there are 2 birthdays this week, and I haven't gotten cards yet...) We have a lot of very special and important people in our lives, and I want to do better at letting them know they're remembered and appreciated by my family!!

5) Use cash. We are, by no means, a credit-card kind of family. But it's so easy to just say, "oh, it's only $20," and charge it to the card, if money is a little tight. Before you know it, you've got $150 or $200 on the credit card, and you didn't even see it coming. I'm trying to adopt the attitude where, if I can't pay for it in cash, I don't need it. There will be emergencies, of course (and I have fairly strictly defined 'emergency'), but for the most part, we will not be using credit cards this year. They're paid off, and we want to keep it that way!

Let's hope I can stick to these in 2011!

Fun with the Ball Game!

I worked overtime yesterday, and when I got home, Hendrix and daddy were kind of best buds. It was pretty darn cute, I must say. Everywhere Matt went, Hendrix was about 12 inches away from him. My heart kind of exploded as I watched them together!!!

Hendrix got a ball pit/game for Christmas and we got it out last night to pass the time before the tired little boy could go to bed. Here are some pictures. (They were taken on my phone, so the quality isn't great.)

This one is my favorite, with his huge smile!!

Handing the balls out to daddy.

The view down into the pit.

This little boy is too much fun!!

Happy New Year!

Well, we made it through 2010. What an exciting, exhausting, and at times tough year.

January: I spent the majority of the month on maternity leave with my tiny little baby. We spent New Years in Galesburg, IL with my mom's family. Grandpa Olson passed away on New Year's Day last year. I'm sure his past year in heaven as been wonderful!

February: Back to work @ Schindler. Eww.

March: Our furnace went out. $8,000 later, we had a new one!

April: Can't remember anything super exciting from April.

May: Our water heater went out. $800 later, we had a new one!

June: We started tearing out the railing on our front porch.

July: Matt worked on painting the front porch and we got a new porch swing, and two Adirondack chairs for the other end of the porch.

August: We worked on landscaping around our front porch. We were finished by Labor day!

September: Hendrix and I travelled to South Dakota, along with Joyce, Brittany, and Landon to meet Joyce's brothers, sister, and parents. What wonderful people. So glad we got the opportunity to go. It was a very enjoyable trip.

October: Matt and I travelled to Toronto, Ontario for our anniversary. My mom and grandmother stayed at our house with Hendrix for those 3 days. Toronto is a wonderful city, and I would love to go back someday!

November: Hendrix celebrated his 1st birthday!! We also found out we were expecting baby #2.

December: We went to Indiana on Dec 4th for Rylee's birthday party, on Dec. 18th for Landon's birthday party, and again for Christmas weekend. Busy but enjoyable month!

That pretty much sums up 2010 for you. Now, on to bigger and better things in 2011!
