Fitness 2012: Week 4 (1/23-1/28)

I would have liked to have seen at least a couple more miles added this week, but alas.....it didn't happen. My goal for this week is 12 miles - providing we don't get any kind of snowy weather. I ran on snow-packed roads my last 6-mile run, and I must say, I won't be doing that again any time soon. I could seriously barely walk the next day. But anyway, here are my stats for this past week:

I also want to really try to work on my cross-training. Our Cancun vacation is 9 months away, and I keep telling myself that if I spend 20 minutes a day doing Pilate's, or any kind of ab-training, I will look so amazingly fab by the fall, I certainly won't regret all the hard work it took! But for some reason, I'll happily go out in 25 degree cold and wind to burn the heck out of my lungs for an hour, but I won't lay down on the carpet in my warm home and spend 20 minutes doing ab-training exercises. I must work on this.

Our weekend: 1/27-1/30

Friday evening, Matt was on his way home from a meeting in Champaign, and didn't get home until almost 8 pm. I picked up the boys, and ordered pizza and cheesy bread for dinner. Yum!

Matt got home, and stated he didn't feel well, and I could tell he wasn't in good shape. Saturday morning, I got up at my normal during-the-week time, because I was taking Hendrix to the Shrine Circus in Fort Wayne! Matt had been up in the night, sick, but stated he felt well enough to care for Jameson, so I left Jamers at home, and Hendrix and I drove to Fort Wayne to meet up with my mom and dad, sister, and Rylee. Hendrix and Rylee went into the petting zoo before the show, and both just had a blast. Hendrix was so funny, he'd pet one of the animals, it would move, and he'd just giggle and giggle! The actual circus lasted just over two hours, so - as one would imagine - Hendrix started getting antsy about 1/2 way through, so we walked the corridors a bit, but over all, he really enjoyed it. His favorite parts had to be the elephants and the tigers. :)

After the circus, we had lunch at a Mexican restaurant, then headed back home. We got home around 3 pm, and Matt was still feeling pretty blah. So I took care of the boys the rest of the evening, and he recuperated. However, I began to feel very blah around 5 pm.


We both woke up Sunday, feeling pretty good, so we cleaned up the kitchen and caught up on the mountain of laundry that was so patiently waiting for us! We were getting ready to head into town, and all of the sudden, Matt's sickness hit me. My stomach was very uneasy, and I ended up spending the rest of the afternoon/evening in the bathroom. ICK!


We're both back in business today, but we didn't get a whole lot accomplished over the weekend. I'd like to focus on cleaning the house this week, but it's always so difficult when you're tired from a day of working, then you need to use the last bit of energy you have left to play with and care for the monsters. We'll just see what happens.


I also haven't sewn for over a week. I'm working on making a quilt/blanket out of Hendrix and Jameson's clothing that they've outgrown. I have three rows (of probably about 10) finished, and really want to get that finished up so I can start sewing skirts to wear to work this spring. Hopefully I can get some sewing done this week, or this coming weekend.

Know Stephanie better.....Issue #1 :)

I'd like to start doing a weekly blog entry that goes a little deeper into "Stephanie." I mainly post about the kids, family, running, and crafting.... I think it'd be nice to post a bit more about my life, my thoughts, who I am, etc. I've turned to a website for topic ideas. Here's the first:


How are you different? Imagine you are in a room with 50 random strangers. List ten ways that you are PROBABLY different from every stranger in that room, then write a piece (poetry or paragraph) that celebrates those differences.


1) I speak two languages. I was going to state that I speak Spanish, and that makes me different, but Spanish is more widely spoken than English anymore!


2) I'm a mommy to two precious boys. Lots of people can be moms, but when you narrow it down to the number of children you have, and the gender of each, that makes me different from other moms!


3) I have played the piano my whole life. Lots of people play instruments, I'd imagine. But if you take into account that fact that I started playing by ear when I was just 2 years old, I'd say that makes me unique.


4) I exercise regularly. A lot of people have this ambition, but few (in my opinion) can actually stick with it. I've been working out pretty regularly since September of 2008. You can further this uniqueness with the fact that I'm in training to run a 1/2 marathon in April.


5) I have lived in a foreign country. My semester spent in Spain was amazing and an experience that I'll carry with me for the rest of my life!


6) I'm a PK. For those of you who aren't familiar with that term, it means preacher's kid. :)


7) I live in a village. Not a city, not even a town. A village. :)


8) I like brussel sprouts. Honest! I've only ever had them fresh, and don't imagine I'd enjoy them from a can, but I think they're tasty, and I'm sure have immeasurable health benefits.


9) I love to pay bills. How strange am I? I don't necessarily enjoy saying goodbye to all my money, but love the feeling of being caught up on finances, and crossing those things off my to-do list!


10) I really don't mind doing housework. Wouldn't say I love it, but I love being in my home, and having a cozy home to clean, so it doesn't bother me so much. :)



Wow! This post was much more difficult to write than I imagined! I feel like I'm pretty average, so it was difficult for me to come up with ten ways in which I'm different from 50 random strangers in a room. Since I kind of elaborated on each one as I stated it, I'm not going to write the little "celebration" paragraph.


This was fun! We'll continue next week. :)

My eating habits need a work-out of their own...

I have great self-discipline. I did NOT want to go out in the freezing cold temps yesterday, but I knew I needed to, so I did it. Six miles later, I felt amazing, and rather proud of myself!

Self-discipline, not a problem. Self-control on the other hand? I possess none whatsoever. You put delicious food in front of me, I'm gonna eat it. Bottom line.

How does one get out of this habit???? I realize it - just like other things in life - probably takes practice. I've GOT to get on this! Why can't I crave things like this:

When all I think about are things like this?:





I don't want all the work I did during exercise to be voided out by junk. I'm going to do all I can to get myself back on this healthy-eating train!

A fellow blogger and girl I went to high school with does a photo-a-day blog post each week. I enjoy looking at her photos, and decided I'd try to do that myself. I'll post weekly (probably not every single week), and we'll see what happens! :)

Fitness 2012: 1/16 - 1/21

Monday 1/16: Rest

Wednesday 1/18: 3.47 miles (My first night run outside, and the distance is a guestimate, as my sportwatch decided to stop working about a block from home, on my way back. Grr.)


Thursday 1/19: Rest


Friday 1/20: Rest


Sunday 1/21: 6 miles. My longest distance yet, and average pace was 9:40. Accoring to my sportwatch, I burned 677 calories! Love it!


Total miles for the week: 9.47



I wish I could have gotten more than 2 runs in this week, but I'm trying to figure out how to fit running into this new daytime working schedule. I've decided that I'm just going to have to run outside after the boys are in bed. I downloaded an app on my iPhone, called "Glympse." IT sends either an email or a text message to Matt, he clocked on the link, and he's able to watch me run, live, in real time. This way, he always knows where I am, and he can see if my pace drastically slows down or speeds up (I'm hurt, or kidnapped in someone's car - creepy, but one of my genuine fears). It's not risk-free, but it definitely makes me feel safer. Matt gets a kick out of watching me run, too. :)


I'm going to sign up for the Glass City 1/2 Marathon this week. Darnit, I'm doing this. :) Have a happy week!

I'm freeeeeeee!

I've officially been released from my current (very soon to be previous) department at work! Yipee!! Tonight is my last night. Only 2.5 hours left of this wretchedness. :)

I was reading an email from the manager today, and was again reminded of how elated I am to be moving on from this department.

I start tomorrow 8-5 in accounting. Woo hoo! Have a fab weekend!

Ok.....I need about $500 to just go shopping! I know, I know: who doesn't?

My professional wardrobe is in desperate need of an update!!! I was able to scrape by on what I had in my closet for the past three years in the call center. Black pants, gray pants, brown pants, cheap sweaters from Dots, etc etc etc. Now that I'm moving downstairs to another department, I've noticed that the women down there (well, most of them - the young ones at least) dress pretty nicely. I could continue to get by on what I have, but I feel all blahhhhh when I'm down there in my basic "business casual" wardrobe, and these other women are in nice dresses, slacks, and beautiful shoes! I feel like I have 5 outfits, and I wear them each week in rotation. Borrrrring.

I need:
3-4 pairs of nice slacks (brown, black, gray)
several nice dressy shirts
3-4 pairs of nice shoes

I hope to spend the next 3 months shopping for and finding cheap, but pretty fabric, and making myself 5-10 new skirts for the spring/summer/fall months. I just read a tutorial about shirring fabric, and hope to use that technique for the waistline in at least a couple of these skirts. Exciting! More to come as I shop, sew, and update my work wardrobe! :)

Long luxurious locks......

I made a rather extravagant purchase last evening, of something I don't really need. So much for that new year's resolution to save, huh? Oops. (*Looks at floor, shuffles feet*)

I'm dying to have long hair! I haven't cut my hair in over a year, and it's almost down to my bra-strap. When my hair gets long, it gets stringy, and I can never "like" it long enough to stick with growing it out. I'm trying right now, but its getting to that point.....

I came accross a youtube channel, when I was searching for New Year's Eve hair styles for the Luxy Sisters. They're 2 (absolutely gorgeous) sisters with beautiful accents. Not sure where they're from, but I'm thinking Spain. (I'm trying to find out.) They have 2 different youtube channels with tutorials on hair, make-up, fashion, etc. After watching various tutorials, I discovered that they actually sell these very affordable (relatively speaking) hair extensions, made of 100% real hair. After drooling over them for 3-4 days, I purchased them. They're 20 inches long, and I ordered the color "chestnut," which is the color in the picture below.



I am ridiculous amounts of excited and can't wait to get them in the mail! I will definitely be posting about them once they arrive. Stay tuned! :)

Running and Exercise Stats (01/01-01/07)

I almost refuse to make any weight-loss/diet related New Year's Resolution, just because of all those *resolutionaries* out there who join gyms and eat like rabbits for 4-5 weeks, then give up each January or February. But, in my defense, I've been running since July, and I'm darn PROUD of my dedication!! I'm feeling a bit in a "blah" slump right now, and just want to be lazy, but at the same time, I feel super fat and gross whenever I don't work out, so hopefully that's enough motivation to keep me going right now! That and the fact that swimsuit season is a mere 5 months away.......eep. And Cancun (geesh I hope we can work it out to go) is 9 months from now.


I keep telling myself, "Imagine how awesome you'll look in June if you keep up this hard-core dedication for the next 5 months." I also want to keep track of the number of miles I run this year, and the approximate number of calories I can burn. That'll be some motivation for me as well. I also think that once I'm on days again, it'll get less difficult to fit my workouts in, especially once warmer weather and longer daylight hours arrive. Here goes - Fitness 2012:

I think its a logical and achievable goal to run at least 10 miles a week this year. That will put me at over 500 miles for the year. Cool, huh?

2012: Bring it on!

I haven't been too "dead set" on making resolutions this year, like I usually am. I suppose I should try to keep at least a few, right? :) It seems like they're the same year after year, and I don't imagine that 2012 will be much different, but here goes!

1) PAY OFF DEBT AND SAVE! We have a lot of medical bills from surgeries/births/etc. We have less than a year until my car is paid off. I stilllllllllll have my student loans. Boo. I'd love to make a big dent in these debts this year, and work on putting money away (with no general purpose). We are going to be saving for our trip to Cancun in October (I hope I hope I hope), but we need to also work on just saving for emergencies, etc.

2) RUN 1/2 MARATHON. I'm feeling anxious about this one. The race is 4 months away, so I still have time, but 13.1 miles is a long race!! I'm going to keep working towards it, and if I am unable to do it, I'm not going to be too hard on myself.

3) KEEP THE HOUSE CLEAN ON A MORE REGULAR BASIS. Let me specify. My house isn't dirty. Like, no 1/2 inch thick layer of dust on stuff, bugs in my kitchen from old food, carpets are black instead of tan kind of dirty. But with a 2 year old and a 6 month old, you can imagine how busy we are, and picking up and keeping organized are sometimes put on the back burner. But, having a cluttered house is super stressful to Matt and I, and I know that if we worked a little harder each day at putting everything back in its place, and the house felt more picked up, that we'd be much happier and less stressed!

4) GIVE 100% IN EVERYTHING AT WORK. I feel like, now that I'm getting out of my horrible, wretched department at work, that I've been given a fresh start, a new chance at success. I want to make sure I do everything right, to the best of my ability, and be proactive in looking for things I can do to improve the professional view that others keep about me. I'm really excited to start training this week, and I think its going to be great!

5) TAKE MORE TIME TO JUST FORGET ABOUT LIFE'S STRESSES AND PLAY WITH MY KIDS! This one is slightly counter-intuitive of #3, but whatever. :) I'm finding it unbelievable that 1/2 of my sweet baby's 1st year is over already. The second child goes much faster than the first, but both of them are growing right before my eyes. I'm going to blink, and they'll both be teenagers, coming home from school, locking themselves in their rooms, and listening to music and playing video games, only surfacing for meals. I want to be the best mommy I can be, and enjoy all the small moments with my small treasures. <3
