Storybook Island!

We spent almost the entire day cleaning our apartment on Saturday.
Sunday morning rolled around.  After breakfast, we realized we had nothing we "had" to do around the house, and the weather was gorgeous.  In a spur of the moment decision, we decided to go to Storybook Island park.  In the span of about 15 minutes, we gathered D supplies, a big jug of water, applied sunscreen, and were out the door for some fun!
The pictures will tell the story better than I will. :)

After a yummy spaghetti dinner, we celebrated Jameson's 2nd birthday with some yummy "Hulk" cake.  (Colored the cake purple and the frosting green!)
This birthday was extra special, and we let Jameson have two pieces of cake!  (They were small, and promptly followed with  a hefty dose of insulin!)

Mr. Handsome man, modeling his stylin' glasses and boxer briefs.  Haha.  He makes me laugh.

It was a wonderful day.  I just love these little non-getaway-getaways with my guys.
I hope everyone has a great week!

A Special Birthday Post

Birthdays are special.  Now that I'm a parent, I think that - as exciting as they are as a child - they're more exciting for the parent.  It's celebrating the day your baby came into the world and completed your life.
My sweet Jameson turns two today!  It feels like yesterday that I was induced and had the easiest labor ever.  Then my little man came into the world at 2:31 pm that warm June day.  So today Matt, Hendrix, and I are celebrating the day that Jameson completed our family of four.
Of course he's special to us.  (He's got mommy wrapped quite tightly around his fat little finger).  But this birthday - while they're all something to celebrate - is a bit more special than the others.
You see, almost 8 months ago, we really weren't sure we'd see this birthday.  And if we did, we weren't sure what our Jameson would be like.  Thankfully, he's fine.  But you can read the whole story HERE of his severe diabetic ketoacidosis and the dangers our boy was facing, while lying unconscious in the pediatric intensive care unit of Mercy St. Vincent's Hospital in Toledo, OH.

Oh, it really, truly was the scariest weekend of all of my 28 years.  But thank God, our boy came back, with no brain damage, and is running around, ornery as ever, and celebrating the completion of his 2nd year of life today!

We love you SO MUCH, sweet boy!  Stay ornery, and stay strong.  Smooches and squeezes!
Happy birthday, Jameson Rossow.

Parenting - A Quick Rant.

Has anyone noticed how many articles and blogposts and books and magazines are out there on parenting?
Do you guys read this stuff?  I tend not to these days.  I used to.  But not anymore.  Why not, you ask?  Here's why.
I am SICK and TIRED of reading all of these "expert" opinions about what makes a good parent.  I am sick and tired of being made to feel inferior, simply because I don't feed my children organic food, or because I only breastfed Hendrix for three months and Jameson for 1 day.  Or because I *gasp* ask my boys that they play with each other and use their imagination instead of me constantly sitting next to them entertaining them for hours a day.
Do you get where I am coming from?  I parent in a pretty old-fashioned way, and I like my style.  But that's not even my point.  My point is:  my style is A.  Your style is B.  That mom's style is neither of those.  And you know what?  That's freaking fantastic!
I wish that our society would stop trying to tell us mothers how to parent and embrace the fact that everyone parent differently and that's what's going to make the world go around once our little people grow up and venture out into the world.
I also wish that us mothers would allow ourselves to be proud of what we do, and stop coming down so hard on ourselves.  I'm guilty of it.  I'm pretty sure every mom is guilty of it.  Being a mom is hard.  It leaves us in tears, often.  It's exhausting.  But we are all doing a great job, in our own ways.  We need to embrace it.
Thanks for humoring me and listening to my quick little rant.
Happy Friday, friends.  Hope you can enjoy your weekend!

June Challenge - Mid Month

I usually do an update post about 1/2 way through the month.  I realized today that 1/2 way through the month was last Saturday.  Slow down, summer!

Anyway.....if you remember my June challenge, it was to clean and re-organize the entire apartment in preparation for my family's visit in July.

Here's how I'm doing, 19 days into the month:

Matt and I's bedroom
Boys' Bedroom
Boys' Closet
Small Bathroom
Large Bathroom
Linen/Toiletries Closet
Living Room
Craft Area
Dining Area
Laundry Room

42% done with 63% of the month gone already.

*cue bullets of sweat*

Better keep on trucking, huh?

What's completely AWESOME though, is that the rooms that have been cleaned and organized are being maintained, which is always really difficult in my house.  We have been staying on top of the boys picking up their messes when they're done, and picking up their room before we read stories each night. (Plus, I sold the crib and changing table today, so that's going to leave us with a LOT more space once we get it out of there - YAY!)

The organized closet in our bedroom has made putting clothes away much less of a chore.  I spend about 10 minutes each morning before leaving for work on apartment maintenance.  The goal is to start spending another 20 minutes - with Matt and the boys' help - on maintenance in the evenings.  That's a total of 30 minutes a day, working as a team to maintain organization.  I think we can do it.

I hope we can do it.  I LOVE living in a clean and organized space!

And P.S.  I CANNOT WAIT for my family to come visit in 23 days.  But I'm not counting down or anything.......

A Father's Day Hike

We were blessed with another weekend of awesome weather for Father's Day.
Our original plan on Sunday was to venture out and find a few geocaches, but when we got to where we wanted to go, we discovered there weren't any near us.  Boo hiss.
But we just rolled with it and went walking on one of the trails on M Hill.  We chose the flattest trail because the boys were with us.  This was a very good decision, seeing how they had to stop and pick up every single rock, stick, and flower they came across.
We walked for about a half hour, the noticed some clouds moving in, so we turned around and headed back to the car.  It wasn't much of an ordeal, but it was so good to get outdoors and breathe some fresh air!

We played outside for a while when we got home.
Daddy thought he'd join Jameson on the airplane.

"No, daddy. You go!"

Not a great picture of us, but we have so few, I'll take it!

We finished off the night with the summeriest of summer fruits.  Delish.

This last picture is pointless, but I thought it was adorable.  The plate on the left is what Hendrix brought me to eat.  The plate on the right is what Jameson thought I should have.  My kids are so crazy and cute and DIFFERENT from each other!

I hope all the dad's had a great day and I hope everyone has a great week!
